Last of the quarter finals: ARG – GER and PAR – ESP

The quarter finals are officially over, the best 4 teams of the world will now compete to decide who goes to the finals, and they only have a couple of days to rest before the semifinals begin.

Since I’m posting this somewhat late I will only do a quick recap of today’s matches.

Argentina vs Germany

I really didn’t expect Argentina to lose this way, a 0-4 score in which Germany pretty much walked over the Argentinians, a sad end for a team that had won every match so far.

You could see the pain in Maradona’s face, specially near the end of the game.

Scoring Summary

Argentina Germany
Thomas Müller (3′)
Miroslav Klose (68′)
Arne Friedrich (74′)
Miroslav Klose (89′)

Paraguay vs Spain

This was an interesting game, many opportunities to score, 3 penalty kicks, and one lucky goal made Spain advance to the semifinals, it wasn’t as intense as Uruguay vs Ghana, but intense nonetheless.

Scoring Summary

Paraguay Spain
Óscar Cardozo (pen miss 59′) Xabi Alonso (pen miss 61′)
David Villa (83′)

Here’s the only goal of the game.

And the 2 penalties, there were 3 but the first one in favor of Spain was disallowed when Spanish players ran into the box at the same time Xabi Alonso shot the ball into the net, having then to repeat the penalty kick by orders of the referee.

First Paraguay.

Then Spain.

That’s it, as Vader said, “The circle is complete!”

The next 2 matches will decide who goes for first and second place.
