Nickelodeon sets new ‘Avatar’ spin-off for 2011

animation arts entertainment news

Not to be confused with Cameron’s giant savage smurfs, this is a sequel to the Avatar: Last Airbender series that was shown on Nickelodeon and was possibly their best show. Ever.

The channel said Wednesday the new animated TV series will premiere in 2011. It has the working title, “The Legend of Korra.” Nickelodeon executive Brown Johnson says the new series will focus on a teenage girl avatar named Korra. Brown describes her as hotheaded, independent and “ready to take on the world.”

So I’m not sure how this is going to work out. One of the appeals of the original series was that Ang was the LAST Airbender, and also the gigantic conflict between the Fire Nation and the others that started around the time of Ang’s predecessor, Avatar Roku. What can possibly top that? From the looks of it, this new character looks to be from the water tribe. We’ll keep an eye out on this one.
