Actually, violets are not blue, they are violet, hence the name. My guess is that the unknown poet who came up with it had bad eyesight.
There are several types of blue flowers, so I really have no idea why the poet chose to rhyme violets with the color blue, I mean, the “Forget-me-not” is a good example of a blue flower…
