First look at CW’s The Atom’s suit, and Superman gets a new power?! Why?

We get to see Brandon Routh in costume, Superman gains a new power for no good reason.

First look at the Atom suit/armor

My guess is that everyone has already seen the first pictures of Brandon Routh in The Atom suit, and I have to say it’s almost perfect if it wasn’t for the helmet showing too much face. I don’t think Ray Palmer understand the concept of a secret identity yet. Then again, neither did Oliver Queen until Barry Allen made a mask for him.

Ex-Superman, I mean Routh will devout the suit in Arrow‘s 15th episode of the season called Nanda Parbat. The Atom will then crossover in the 18th episode with The Flash.

Grant Gustin (Barry Allen) also posted a picture on Instagram of the Atom suit in Star Labs.

I read many comments comparing this suit with the Iron Man armor, even some went as far as calling it a ripoff. Well, I’d say those people either lack imagination, or have never seen another armored character in their natural freaking life.  There are many characters with similar suits, but if I think I’d settle for these two similar designs; the Pacific Rim pilot suits, and XO Manowar.

They really need to work on the helmet.

Superman gets a new power because reasons… (SPOILERS AHEAD)

“Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!” You don’t have to be a Superman fan to have been exposed to his powers, including X-ray vision, heat vision, freeze breath, and a bunch of other absurd abilities he’s had over the decades. However, today in Superman #38 he gets a new power and a new costume. I think the new costume may have something to do with Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Superman #38 (New 52)

Believe it or not, the biggest spoiler here is right on the cover.  His new ability, apparently tied to his heat vision, is the ability to detonate. As in going all anime and exploding into a gigantic surge of energy.

I’m not going to go into the details of the story, but I would really like to know what the thought process was behind them giving the strongest guy in the DC Universe more powers. Seriously, Superman has had trouble finding foes that can keep up with him, and now he can explode? I fear for Jimmy Olsen’s safety.

By the way, I don’t understand why the variant cover edition is more expensive than the regular one, it’s going for around $50 to $80 on eBay, and about $40 on TFAW.
