Remember the Fantom External Drive I reviewed a while ago?

Last year I reviewed the Fantom Drives GreenDrive Pro 2TB eSata/USB 2.0 (click here to read my awesome review), and it still works. I haven’t had any problems with it, so I can safely say it is a great external drive for the money.

I just found out that Tigerdirect has this very same drive at $109.99, that’s cheaper than when I first got it and after 2 rebates! So, if you’re interested in getting an 2TB, eSATA, fanless external drive then don’t miss on this opportunity.

Newegg has this same drive for a few bucks more, $112.99 to be exact, but I guess the difference in price will come down to the shipping.

If you’re looking for a good, cheap 2TB eSATA/USB 2.0, MAC/PC compatible external hard drive, this is the one to go, but you might want to hurry up, Tigerdirect’s hot deals only last for a couple of days.

  2. They are indeed cheap….. These are the worst drives I have ever purchased and if you have a problem and a warranty you can forget about having it fixed. I buy and use a lot of drives and I buy mirror drives, so always a set of two. The first drive lost my data…It would not mount and I could not access the data. I lost the data and sent in the drive. Tech support quickly said there was nothing wrong with it and returned it. The second drive now will not eject… Customer service says “what else can we do?” and tells me that a warranty does NOT mean they will replace a product.. It is strange to me because that is not the case with any other product I have ever had under warranty…it is fixed or replaced. If you do buy one of these, back up on another drive from another manufacturer and for heavens sake don’t buy an extended warranty…

If your data is important to you…be VERY careful.

    1. Holy cow, that sounds like quite a nightmare you went through…. Mine still works just fine, so I guess it’s kind of a gamble, you never know when you’ll be getting a bad one…

I use mine via eSata because I don’t trust USB with really important data that much. I’ve had bad experiences with USB 2.0 enclosures short circuiting or doing crazy stuff that ruins the hard drive and/or the data.

As for the warranty, that sucks, I haven’t had to replace mine yet, but you’re absolutely right, you either get it fixed or replaced, I don’t see why they would make it so complicated. I guess getting an account on one of those online backup sites like Safecopy or Carbonite would be a good idea, mostly for very important files.
