Small city in Nebraska passes immigration law

(AP) – Angered by an influx of Hispanic workers drawn by jobs at local meatpacking plants, voters in the eastern Nebraska city of Fremont went in favor of an immigration measure that would prohibit businesses and landlords from hiring or renting to illegal immigrants. The vote was a culmination of a two-year fight that saw proponents collect enough signatures to put the question to a public vote. The measure requires potential renters to apply for a license, and Fremont officials to check their legal status before granting one. The community of 25,000 people could face a long and costly court battle.

A man who helped write the landmark Arizona law helped to fight for the ordinance in Fremont, which has seen its Hispanic population surge almost tenfold—from 165 to 2,060—in the past two decades. Most of the new immigrants were recruited to work for the Fremont Beef and Hormel plants, and the city maintains an enviably low 4.9% unemployment rate. Nonetheless, residents worry that jobs are going to illegal immigrants who they fear could drain community resources. “It has nothing to do with being racist,” says one resident, noting that when he worked in the Hormel plan in the 1980s he had one Hispanic coworker.

Wow, a relatively small and unknown city trying to be the center of attention, go figure. Let’s see where this city is.

This is a joke right? A small city really far from the border, that has seen an increase in the Hispanic population over the last 20 years, and with an unemployment rate of only 4.9% in a time of economic depression? Are you fucking kidding me?!? Why can’t they just sue the meat packing companies? I’ll tell you why, it’s because they provide tons and tons of money to politicians, that’s why.

What the hell is wrong with you people? The state of Arizona passed a similar law for the whole state, who said this small city has the right to do the job of the Federal Government?

Either that or they are just looking for national attention, damn attention whores.

Look, all this immigration shit is tiring, it’s all about dirty politics. Right wingers, left wingers, liberals, conservatives, they all don’t give a rat’s ass about immigration, they all want one thing and one thing only, your vote.

Republicans are still pissed about losing the last presidential elections to a democrat, the only way to get your vote back is by calling out the so called “patriots,” aka really angry white Americans.

While everyone’s so busy being up-in-arms about the illegal Hispanic workers getting their jobs, let’s see a conservative politician show even HALF as much passion for the idea of going after the damn employers (but see, those “employers” tend to be white). Let’s see Arizona start raiding those companies/ranches that “everyone” knows is an employer of illegals. It’s FAR easier for the conservative party to fan the flames of the anti-immigration sentiment if they leave out the part that asks for accountability on the “American” side of the coin. They already know that the conservatives they’re targeting like to blame all of our problems on “other” countries and “other” people, rather than considering for a MOMENT what contribution “they’ve” made to the problem.

It’s ultimately not the fault of the illegal workers that they’re “getting” the jobs…..it’s the *American* employer who is “knowingly” hiring illegal workers. It’s the “American” company who is giving their positions away to non-Americans, in order to pad their profit-margin. And it’s the *American* people who are too blind/stupid to know who deserves *what* anger.

You want to punish those who are here illegally? Fine, I’m with ya. But you wanna talk about “jobs” and illegals getting those jobs that Americans need right now? Start looking at those rich, white men who own those companies and hire the employees. But we all know there’s NO way a politician will run on a platform that involves THAT much principle, right?

Conservatives like to pander to the rich as well, lecturing liberals about how those rich folks *create* the jobs in this country and we should be more appreciative of them. Apparently, conservatives have NO issue with the idea of the entire country being held hostage by corporate power…..we’ll let *them* off the hook because they’ve got us bent over a barrel in the unemployment crisis. “Leave them alone, or they won’t create jobs for us.” Of course, they’re not mentioning that those jobs being created are also being given to NON-Americans. But I’ve not come to expect any more honesty from conservatives than you can from “any” other politician…..it’s bullshit, all the way around.

Finally some common sense.

The federal government is busy doing something, we just don’t know what. The republicans are busy opposing whatever the president throws at them, again trying to appeal to the angry-white population.

Fact: Did you know the meat and poultry industry goes to Mexico and other countries from Central and South America and posts ads on local newspapers offering jobs on the US? Did you know they are the ones that get these people through the border without a visa? Did you know the Border Patrol doesn’t tell them shit and let’s them go without checking them out?

I say you angry people go and boycott these companies, but you won’t because you would rather throw every single problem this country has on the people crossing the border illegally than going straight at the source of the goddamn problem.

And this is the last I post about immigration, I hate talking about it, and to whoever is pushing stupid laws like this one, GO FUCK YOURSELF WITH A BURNING ROD.
