Batman Day 2020: No comic books or events for today due to Covid-19
What should’ve been a hell of an yearly event, with signings, panels, interviews, cosplays, and new announcements on pretty much everything Batman related, has turned out into another virtual event affected by the novel Covid-19.
DC will offer free digital comics including the first chapter of Batman: Curse of the White Knight graphic novel by Sean Gordon Murphy for adults and teens. Fans of any age can enjoy the free digital editions of Batman: The Adventures Continue #1 and the first chapter of the Batman Tales: Once Upon a Crime graphic novel. Readers can find them at DCcomics.com and ReadDC.com as well as Apple, ComiXology.com, Google, Overdrive, Madefire and Nook.
Physical comic store events have been cancelled, including comic books that are usually made for this occasion.
Less than two weeks after announcing DC Comics announced their plans, the publisher let their retailers they would not involve comic book stores in the plan.
“Due to the ongoing global health crisis, this year’s Batman Day will differ from our past blow-out celebrations. As with many recent events, we have pulled back from the physical elements of Batman Day, which is why there are no printed comic books for Batman Day 2020.”
Instead, DC Comics has a list of Batman themed apparel and other products on Walmart, Target, Amazon, and Hot Topic; new LEGO products, which may or may not include the rumored 1989 Batwing from the 1989 which complements the 1989 LEGO Batmobile that came out last year, SpinMaster, and a Funko stuff, like the Batman Devastator 80th Anniversary Edition Funko Pop.
From the products announced so far, I think the two Swarovski pieces are just plain awesome. Expensive, but awesome.
